We stayed at the hotel based on the details and photos on their website which looked very attractive. The food was OK.
Unfortunately the hotel bore little resemblance to it's website description. The room was still in the 1970's and had a desperate need of an upgrade (unlike the lovely rooms on the website) not cleaned properly, no TV remote. The hotel "grounds were dirty - rubbish burning in delapidated outbuildings and litter. Inside the Hotel was dingy , reception area being particularly uninviting.
The hotel is an old coaching inn and you got the atmosphere of that. For the money I thought it was good value and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food.
I thought that the dress of the staff was untidy almost sloppy, and there was not the attention to detail I would expect about their day to day activities.
The Hotel was well placed for the surrounding area scenic and walking it was not too far to the ferries for the Western Isles at Oban I hope to go back in the near future for a longer stay
Good location for touring Argyll & Bute district also staff friendly & food superb room good size .
Friendly staff, traditional country hotel with historical interest.Excellent cuisine.
Stayed in room 11 where the bathroom facilities were less than adequate. Wash basin was too small. Nowhere to place toiletries. When we were there, there was no hot water to the basin although the shower worked splendidly. Other than the bar which is the only facility for locals as well as guests, there is no dedicated lounge area for residents where one can relax, talk qietly or read.Otherwise we could not fault the hotel for extent of welcome and quality of food.
The Taynuilt was not where we were expecting it to be. The pictures were somewhat better than the actual hotel. We had had a long journey to get there and I was quite disappointed when I arrived. It was cold, but to be fair, we did arrive at 12.30 and they were not ready for us, which was to be expected as check in is not until 2. They did, however, have the room ready within 30 minutes of arriving and it was big and nicely decorated. We stayed for 3 nights in the end and had breakfast. The breakfast was adequate. The staff were very nice and obliging. In hindsight if I was to go away again I would have to stay in a town as there was not a lot to do in Taynuilt.
Easy to find & convenient location on the main road. Clean comfortable room & we could take the dog. Friendly staff. As we arrived on a Sunday we were able to enjoy a great 3 course carvery meal for £10.95 per person.
Noise from traffic on the main road was slightly annoying due to no double glazing - but was to be expected in a building of that age.
The food was good and plentiful. The bar not too expensive. The room decor was a bit tired, but was very comfortable. Excellent value for money
Couldn't fault anything.
Friendly. For anyone catching the Oban ferry it is much pleasanter than staying overnight in Oban. The walk down to the jetty on the loch is always pleasant, plenty of birds in the trees and on the water. Good. Thank you.
It was grubby, outdated and in need of renovation. The TV was very small, had only 3 channels and the picture was fuzzy. Th walls wre paper thin and we heard noise from several other rooms. We needed to leave by 8am, so were not able to have any food - surely some alternative would have been possible?
some of the staff were very friendly and courteous
There was no hot water from a tap for the whole of our stay, the plumbing system is noisy and not what one should expect from a hotel costing £80 per night. The hairdryer was anchored to a drawer at the opposite end of the room from the only mirror. The room lacked fixtures and fittings like a dressing table, the bathroom too lacked any finishing touches, my soap bag had to live on the floor as there was no surface on which to lay it. The bar was very poorly staffed. \the bar man served two locals who appeared well into the evening well drunk and drinking from lager cans they had brought with them. They were very drunk, very foul mouthed and completely rude.At one stage one of them was simulating sex from a porn movie in front of children!
The food was excellent. The service was friendly and accommodating. The Hotel is an older hotel that has charm.
One of the rooms had a bathroom with a poor shower.
The easy acess to travel to the islands
The breakfast was not very healthy maybe some fruit and yogurt
The four poster bed was realy comfortable
Bathroom facilities need upgrading and general cleanliness not good
We did not have hot water in the basin for my husband to shave in the morning. The cooked breakfast was very greasy.
